History and Highlights of Titusville
Indigenous peoples had inhabited Titusville for thousands of years. Confirmation of this came in 1982 at the Windover Archaeological Site where archaeologists discovered human remains believed to be from 6000 to 5000 BCE. Ever since Windover has been designated as a National Historic Landmark because of the significance of its remains.
As Henry Theodore Titus, a Confederate colonel adventured atop the Indian River shores (known as Sand Point back in the day), he built a town with his wife, Mary. In 1873, this town came to be known as Titusville.
In the 1880s, Titusville was the origin for business shipments of the well-known Indian River Citrus from Dummitt Grove. Then, in the 1890s, the building blocks of the town’s main bank, 2 daily papers, the institution of an angling business, and the relationship between Titusville and Enterprise( via railroad on the north shore of Lake Monroe near Sanford) bloomed. an extension of the railroad from Jacksonville and South on the East coast was conducted in 1892 when Titusville's 1st train station was developed.
The consolidation of Titusville and the association of a Board of Trade occurred in 1887 and became the harbinger of the current day Chamber of Commerce. Before long, streets discussed an extension over the Indian River to extend accessibility to those operating in Playalinda and Desoto Beaches. A water framework was introduced, a fire department was established, a short-lived bank was founded and stormwater waste frameworks were introduced.
Titusville was influenced by the 1920s boom and the depression that rose a decade later. Since no plane terminals existed on the East, the present-day Arthur Dunn Airpark was to be used as an emergency landing area in 1927.
